The Solomon Islanders are putting up a memorial next to Henderson field
    for the SeaBee's next month

after the bun fight and Civil war there recently ( where i got to play a bit )
the chiefs there started organising a peoples memorial to those who have helped them the most

and first of the rank is the US Sea Bee's

more info as it comes to hand , this from a mate who is now a Christian Missionary ( former heavy weapons specialist in the SASR ) in the islands based in vanuatu but who heads to the SI a lot with his work

this is NOT a government thing , this is all the locals who remember ,
and they seem to remember it all well

from the huts that where moved to thick jungle locations that became schools and clinics , to the wells sunk ( and many still operating after all these years ) to the Cross made of Japanese artillery tubes in the open air Church ,

they wish it to be their Thank You to all who came from so far to do so much for those they did not know and who left them with so much

cheers to you and all yours mate ! the good folks will always remember ..

Thanks, Jack. My Dad's cousin was there, but didn't do much construction. He was UDT.

I'd be extremely interested in how this all turns out, Jack !

The "CB's " are a largely forgotten - but extremely vital - arm of PTO operations !

In the "popular media" I recall only one movie of their exploits made starring, (who else) John Wayne and featuring a host of character actors like William Frawley.

Many year's back I had occasion to meet/associate with a number of these veterans. Never regretted the time spent or the rounds bought ! >MW

let me restae something , there is a number of memorials there already , but generally placed after great ceremony and with government assistance or by the units that where there

This one is being made by the people , funded by the people, and they want it dont before the last of the people who where there when it happened pass away

they are deciding who helped them the most

the Marines may think they helped more , the aussie coast watchers and secret radio folks may think they helped but this is decided purely by those who where alive at the time and saw things their own way

and there will be i'm told a total of 8 of these memorials going up in the next year

but first one is to the seabee's ..
