It is a 1st Model and was made by H&R sometime between 1959 and 1973. If you supply the serial number we can tell you the year of manuf.
It can handle .32 S&W LONG factory loaded cartridges. It has the 4" barrel and the square butt. Firing pin appears to be mounted on nose of hammer - putting it in the middle of time period for this model. What else would you like to know?

Thanks Jim - I will get the serial number and re-post.
What was the target market for these guns? My uncle had it before giving it to my father. Was it made for consumers or the police? Given the condition what do you think it is worth?

It was made for the civilian market - there was very little police interest in 32 S&W Long at the time these guns were made. The intended uses were casual target shooting, small game hunting, and home defence.

As time went on, people increasingly preferred either 22 rimfire or 38 Special for these purposes, but 32 Long was the most powerful cartridge H&R offered in a swing-out cylinder gun until they introduced 32 Magnum in the late 1980's. 32 Long is no longer very popular, but you can still get it in a good gun store or via the internet. It costs more than 38 Special, however.

I have a 732 I got from my father.. its serial number is a029550. Most of the serial numbers seem to be double letters (such as AL) so not sure if i transcribed the serial number correctly.. what year is this? its a long barrel.
