We recently found my grandfather's 922 in my grandma's basement (my grandpa passed away a few years ago) and I was wondering, before attempting to take it to the range to fire it, is there any way to determine if it is safe to fire? We're unsure of the last time it was fired, and I'm always paranoid about this kind of thing...

Take it to a qualified gunsmith and have it inspected.
    Better safe than sorry!
