It's the first full week of August. Our local schools started today. Has anybody elses schools started yet.

I know us Cajuns need the extra help, but come on. If I was still a kid (jury's still out on that  :D) I'd be P.O.'ed.

Note: The new school across the street, who's driveway is lined up with my bedroom window, held it's first classes today.  :D

We start in a few weeks. I'm so glad they moved it back closer to september here. The day school starts, my business takes a 40% drop in daily gross income. That equates to lotsa lost tax revenue for our little burg.

Schools around here usually start after Labor Day; since this year Labor Day is late, we're starting around Aug. 28 or 29. Much of our tourist economy needs all the laborers it can get during the summer that starting early here makes it difficult for businesses, even in this economy.

Tue. Aug 4 for my granddaughter. She starts school in El Paso, Tx 7th grade. Major culture shock. Most Army brats are used to changing schools regularly. She made it this far by a fortuitous circumstance of her fathers lengthy assignments in Hi. Tough year for finding a new batch of friends though.

My kids go back on the 24th and 25th, then it's me alone at home, with arsenal of guns, alot of ammo, and 8 acres of woods. Oh and a computer. That is until September. Then I'm off to Iraq, again. This time I'll be on gaurd duty, so I will still have access to a computer.

Gosh, I remember when summer vacation was THREE FULL MONTHS!!
Of course, we didn't have all those social consciousness classes to squeeze in - -

I have no clue so I did a search to find the date in the state and then town and all you get is the touchy-feely BS with no date as to the day back. It's usually in Early Sept either just before or after Labor day depending on when LD falls. It's no surprise the kids aren't getting an education that is worth something the people giving it don't have a clue what day it is.
  15. I start teaching again at the college on the 24th, but I think the local K-12 starts about a week before that. Times have changed a lot since I was a kid. We always started school in September, right after Labor Day, and it always let out in early June.
