    Hi guys

Probably somebody asked this question before. But i need some help to find a .22 lr bolt action rifle. It has to be bolt action, it doesnt matter if is single shot or if it has a magazine, but the most important thing is that i want one that is under $200.00 and it is considered to be a good rifle. So if somebody knows something please let me know. This is for my cousin who is starting to learn about guns. But i dont want something expensive, to start with.

  2. Yeah, it has been asked before. I was the one asking. I got lots of good advice and opinions, but ultimately, I decided there were no good bolt action rifles in .22LR that cheap. The best value I found was a CZ 452. It was around four hundred bucks, but it's a really terrific rifle, very well made, of good materials, and it looks good and shoots really well. I got the "FS" version, which has a Mannlicher-style "full stock".

I am a big CZ fan. I have the 452 FS Mannlicher in both 22lr and 22WMR. Unique rifles that perform very well. The FS configuration is known for it's inherent accuracy among the impressive line-up of CZ 452 rifles. I cannot recommend the J&P Ghost Ring Sights enough. There are 3 ring sizes, they replace the standard rear sight blade insert. IMHO, money well spent.

PS... Their Action Screws are also well worth the money :D

    Welcome MP,

In your price range I would suggest you look at the Stevens 300 series of rifles. They are a Savage Arms product. They are not a CZ but they don't cost $400.00 either.

I'm old and forgetful. There is the new Winchester Wildcat .22 and there are models in your price range. It is Russian made but wears the Winchester name. A good friend just got the target/varmint model for $300 but that is the top model. They have some in your price range. He is very pleased with his new Wildcat. He purchased it at Gander Mt.

ANY of the Marlin 25-series (including 925's & 980's) will run with a CZ and cost less than $200, as long as you do three things.

    Do a basic trigger job.
    Bed the action.
Get a decent scope (no farking tascos!) :D

The old mossberg bolts are nice and shoot shorts and longs. With shorts the tube holds 30 rounds. Not bad for a 50's era gun.

Or, you could buy a used Remington 5-teen, like a model 510, 511, 512, or 513. All of them are accurate and some can be found for as low as $150 if you're lucky.

The Savage MK II series with accutrigger is an excellent rifle from the IIg for $230 all the way up to the Classic for $500 or so. If you don't mind used, look for any of the CZ Model 452s. I picked up a Silhouette a while back for $280 that is outstanding. I have a MkIIg that I am still breaking in, and it shoots right with the CZ at half the cost of a new CZ. And the new CZ 455s will be $550 or so. Just what ever you want. Something to shoot to say you have a bolt action, or one that will hit what you want in little bitty groups ar 50 yards or better. DF

There certainly is an excellent 22LR bolt action rifle for $200. I have both the
Remington Model 5 and the Remington Model 5 Youth versions of this truly well built and good looking gun. They are now known as Zastava, but the same identical guns. Highly recommended!
