I have been searching to find out what kind of old flint lock I have and need some help from the experts. This gun was given to me as a gift years ago and I would love to know a little more information about.
Thanks in advance for you help! I can take more pictures if needed..
It's an English flintlock sporting shotgun. The lock is of a type commonly found on Sea Service pistols from maybe 1820. It's a little worse for the wear which doesn't do any good for value. OTOH the make-do field repairs say something about the ingenuity of owners needing to keep a damaged gun functional. It's not particularly of interest to collectors but it could be a major asset to hang over a fireplace in a rustic retro-room.
I really appreciate the information! It looks really cool with those repairs and I am just glad that it is authentic. When I look at it I imagine all its encounters though life haha.
Thanks again!
