Sold a 1970-production Browning BAR Grade II in 7mm Mag some months ago. Used well, but a solid rifle. Some weeks after the auction closed, I get an email from the buyer saying the gun is ruined. His "gunsmith" told him the previous owner had never cleaned the rifle and now it wont go into battery fully - that it had to be sent back to Browning to get a new receiver.

Well, I know that is not how it left here, but I offered to credit his full purchase price plus shipping both ways on a new-in-the-box BAR Stalker 7mm Mag. That was OK by him (you think?) and he eventually shipped the BAR back to me (another month). Apparently he was having trouble retrieving the rifle from this "gunsmith."

    Here's why:

I get the rifle back and the bolt is completely locked up. Wont move forward or backward. It is reassembled completely incorrectly. I havent figured out if this "gunsmith" in NY is merely incompetent or up to something. Anyway, this "gunsmith" (sarcastic "" intended) is the receiving FFL for this rifle. I have emailed the end customer about all this, and I am enclosing a huge note on the Browning box.

"BAR DISASSEMBLY IS NOT FOR MORONS. DO NOT TOUCH THE RIFLE."

You think he'll get the idea??

Probably not. If morons had any brains, they wouldn't be morons.

Nope - the "moron" will not get the message. He will assume you are talking about the customer and not him.

It is amazing the morons in this world. At the last gunshow, I had an FN49 Venezualan contract rifle in 7mm Mauser in excellent condition sitting on my table. Some moron came up, picked up the rifle, and said he wanted to buy the top cover and flash hider off of the rifle. I told him he was nuts, the gun was a complete functional collectors item, and I was not parting it out. He stood there holding the rifle, and argueing with me! I kept telling him no way, put the rifle down, it was not a parts gun. The idiot started yelling at me that I was an un-American S.O.B., etc., and at that point the dealers from the tables on both sides of me were behind him, grabbed him, took the rifle from him, and by that time security was there to escort the moron out.

There are all kinds in this world, and I am afraid we have a large proportion of nuts and flakes in that trail mix.

WOW what a story !!! Heres another one but not as good. The last gun show I went to(a couple of months ago) I was at a table where the seller was selling mostly AR items. While I was waiting to pay him for the new grips I was buying two different people jumped in front of me asking the seller how they could make their AR full auto. One guy asked him what a flash suppressor does and how it connects to the barrel. To make this short...The guy bought the suppressor with the intention of making threads on the end of his AR. The sad thing about all this is the seller had a few AR's that I was interested in and every time we started in on them, some joker would come up and rudely interrupt us and ask them stupid questions. What in the world are these people thinking!?

I sold a Chinese SKS a few months back on AA. The posting said "will take hi-cap mags" The photo showed the rifle with a SKS 30 rounder installed. After shipping the rifle to the buyer I get an e-mail. He says he thought the rifle took AK mags and he didn't want the gun. I told him there was no way I lead anyone to believe the gun took AK mags. I didn't here back from him. That Saturday he called me at home and whined about the gun over the phone.

I told him to send me the rifle and I would refund his money minus the shipping, he said OK. Two weeks goes by, no gun. Finally after a month the rifle shows up and I refused delivery on it. He emails me when he gets the rifle back and wants to know what the hell is going on. I told him that it had been over a month since I told you to ship the rifle back. I am not running an SKS rental service and I hoped he enjoyed his purchase. I never heard from him again.

bondai - it never ceases to amaze me how idiotic people think others are. I have always said if I buy it I'm keeping it - no matter if it isn't what I thought it was. The onus is on me to get the correct weapon, equipment and accessories - not on the person selling it to have to cater to someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

On the other hand - I love guns so much that I've yet to of bought a weapon that I didn't like or that I couldn't trade for something I did truly want.

OK, finally got the BAR apart and discovered the problem. Whoever took it apart either dropped the bolt or attempted to disassemble the bolt from the bolt sleeve with a screwdriver or chisel. HUGE peened-up burr causing the bolt to stick tight inside the bolt sleeve instead of reciprocating along its track. Three or four passes with a fine file and a brief finish polish with a wheel, good as new.

    Rifle functions perfectly. Deliberate? Hmmmm...
