History of family shotgun

We have an H&R shotgun that has been passed down a few generations. On the breech of the barrel it says "TOPPER MODEL 58, 12 GA 3 MOD". On the left side it says "HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, INC. Gardner, Mass. USA AM321749". It is still in great condition and is about the most accurate weapon I've ever fired!

The story is that my great grandpa, or great great grandpa, bought it when he got to the US from Ireland. But we don't know what year that was. And my grandpa died probably 12 years ago. He is probably the only one in the family that would know.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated! Thanks much!

Sorry, but while your story is nice family history, it don't pan out.

H&R Model 58s were only made from 1974 to 1981. And with a AM prefix to the serial number, yours was made in 1974.
