Well since the homemade case lube thread is going so good I decided to start a thread on casting bullet lube recipes. I don't have a recipe myself, but I'm very eager to see what everyone else does for theirs. I'm planning on getting into casting very soon and plan on pan lubing my rounds after I resize them in the Lee bullet sizer dies.
If you can get hold of JLA, I know he has a recipe. He sent me 4 or 5 of the hollow tube lubes that he made a couple of years ago. He doesn't post much any more but I am sure he would give you the info.
I've been trying home made bullet lubes for a while and found that simple is good. I have a few recipes, but the best ones seem to have just 3 or 4 components and are usually easy. One of my favorites is Bull Plate and beeswax, 3 to 1 by weight, adjusted for thickness/hardness (or synthetic 2-cycle motor oil if I don't have any Bull Plate). Beeswax softened with Marvel's Mystery Oil, olive oil, vegetable oil, Crisco, lard, tallow, etc. works well in most handguns.
Lots of fun concocting your own stuff (but don't make large batches, 'cause some may not work and you'll just have a bunch of flux!).
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
