How fast can you push a 385 gr. Great plains HBHP in a muzzleloader without lead fouling the bore. So far I have only used them with a .50 gr stick of Jim Shockeys and they shoot great, but I have yet to chrony them...

Lyman Blackpowder Handbook is showing a 120gr. charge of 2f Goex at 1624fps. out of a 32 inch barrel.

my barrel is considerably shorter at 24" and with a 50 gr stick they are probably pushing 1000 or so. I like shooting sabots but they are just too damn expensive, ill save em for hunting. I picked up 100 prelubed Great Plains HBHPs for 40 bucks. 100 SST sabots would have run me like 80 or 90 bucks. I love shooting my muzzy it just gets costly to shoot a quality bullet:(

With that 24 inch barrel and 50grs. of 2f Goex it's showing 1004fps.
Far as a quality bullet...nothing wrong with that Lyman Plains bullet.

Cool, Thanks Quigley. I got the scope set this A.M. with a 100 gr charge of shockeys gold itll smack a soda can at 100 yds every time. Im probably gonna go ahead and try 150 gr. and see what happens, i just dont wanna push em too fast, but it would be cool if I could get similar results at 200 yds:)

Sounds like you've got it going your way.
My South African friends are killing alot of game with that particular bullet so I know what it'll do.
    100grs. of 2f Goex is showing 1337fps.

I suppose I should consider myself lucky that my Rem 700 ML shoots round balls better than conicals. At least in the price department. And I figure on deer a .54 caliber ball doesn't need to expand anyway so I'm not really looking for expansion....
