Never have shot any kind of competition. Just lots of hunting and long range steel targets at 500 meters.

That would be 546 yards. That is just the way the range was set up. I do not know why the used meters instead of yards. The do hold competions at this range so that could be the reason.

When I was younger we had 75 ft. shots at the local rod and gun club. my brother and I both participated in the shoots. I cant remember what we shot though. I like small bore shooting, its cheap and a hoot to participate in.

Well, I shoot in a 22 bullseye pistol league and use a Ruger MKIII 22/45 with an ultradot scope. Distance is 50ft. The gun shoots better than I do. I average 250 to 260 out of 300.

From the bench I have seen 1 inch groups of 10.

Depends on how serious the competition is. Most of the time Remington Golden Bullet that I buy in the 100 packs, not the bulk stuff for 25 yards to 50 yards and Winchester Super X or Federal Gold Medal out to 100 yards. I prefer 40 grain solids but will use the 38 gr HP if that's all I can get.
