i usually keep about 60 3006 loaded.. and otherwise make what i need, before i need it.. but not long before. I do however make sure i have SOME loaded ammo for everything i shhot, at all times. or at least have some commercial supply available.. something...
I currently have 3,000 .40s&w, 4,200 .45acp, 2,700 .223 REM, and 900 .38spl. The only reason I know is I took inventory on my ammo last night. I started the year with 6,000 .40s&w, 6,000 .45acp, 2,000 .223REM (which was shot up, and didn't have any til June), and 2,000 .38 spl. I usually try to load enough .40s&w ammo to last me an entire year of shooting IDPA, and load about 500 per month during the year for practice. The rest I load up when I drop down to around 1k.
Usually I try to keep a couple of dozen rounds or so on hand.No more than a box or two!I'm almost out now because I shoot all that I make.
Maybe I should save some!
Between 1000 and 2000 for each 38spl, 357mag, 45acp, 40s&w, 44mag, 223rem. About 5000 9mm. And somewhere near 500 30/30, 30-06, 243win, 270win, 308win.
When I get go shoot some, and see how few boxes I have left of a caliber, I get this strong urge to load more. A couple hundred of each is where I'm comfortable with reloads. I usually keep fewer factory load around, and seem to be happy with that arrangement. I've almost stopped shooting rifle loads because my supply of components is so low.

I don't try to keep track of what I have, I just know I have a bunch of every thing I shoot. I have a hard time keeping the reloading up with the unloading!!
I try really hard to reload more rounds than I shoot. If I know I need to shoot a 200 round day, then I reload 3-4 hundred rounds. Over the years this has paid off, as I now have thousands of pistol rounds on hand for each caliber I shoot.
There is a place somewhere out there in this (for now) free country where I have a couple pallets of various calibers, mostly 9mm. Every year I break out a box and shoot it up. Works just like it was made yesterday.
I'm just under 1,000 rounds of 9mm, .45, .38 and .44 spec. 200-300 .44mag and .357. 700-800 .223 and 200 .30-06. I would load more but I need more brass for my mag calibers. I have components to load up to 20,000 rounds and I keep buying more every week. I keep a few boxes of factory ammo on the shelf but hardly ever shoot it.
Depends on the cartridge. Some, only a box or two simply because of the expense and effort to form them. 9.3 X 82R at $68.00 a box for just the brass is kinda self limiting. Then it has to be formed into 9.3 X 75R Nimrod. Others, more common stuff, plenty.
When it's cold (rarely in Houston) or raining, I reload. For the last few years I have replenished my powder, bullets and primers frequently as I shot, to always keep a healthy supply, including a supply of reloads. During the recent supply shortage, I was able to shoot as much as desired. I typically buy primers, powder and bullets when I shoot, as available. I shoot a lot, but reload more.
used to reload as i needed them,,,now reload till i am out of what ever i was low on,,, an excuse to start looking for more supplies,, so i hopefully have time to find more instead of waiting and not being able to find what i need in time for WW3,,, never hurts to have enough for when you may need it,, and can go shooting without haveing to wait ,, only thing is now my storage cabinet is soo full have to go buy another one just in case,,, have at least 4-500 rounds for EVERY CAL of gun i have , some a bit more
No offence, but this is a silly question. How many bananas do you keep in your kitchen? Will the amount of reloads I keep on hand affect how many you're gonna keep?
FWIW I keep prolly a total of 10,000 rounds of mixed ammo (38/357 [at least 700], .44 Spec./Mag. [mebbe 500], 9mm [at least 1500], 45 ACP [at least 1,500], .223/5.56 [mebbe 500], 30-30 [mebbe 200] and 30-06 [at least 2k], and misc. ammo, mebbe 500-600 more)...
I try to keep a handfull of ammo on hand, but not all of it is reloads. Some are on their first load. Anything that I'm not planning to use fairly soon gets sealed up with the foodsaver and put away. Stays fresh and clean for quite awhile. I try to use the oldest first but it doesnt seem to matter, theyre all just like I loaded them. Id be concerned with corroding ammo otherwise. Im not gonna put that nasty green crap in any of my firearms. Latex gloves keeps the lead off my skin and the skin oil off the ammo. But as far as anyone needs to know, I only have a few rounds on hand, saved for anyone attempting to pillage my guns or ammo.
