I picked up a Yugo Mauser a while ago, and would like to know when it was produced. If it helps, the s/n is 28582. If not, let me know what info you need off of it.

    Thanks,
    Evan

The M48 Yugo mauser was produced well after WW II. As the model designation applies, it was adopted and produced starting in 1948. To find an actual date of manufacture, will take a bit of research. Since we know that they starting to produce them in 1948, the next trick would be to figure out their serial number code. How many did they produce in 48? What did the number start off with in 49? When did they stop producing the M48 and start with the M48a? When was the mauser dropped altogether for a semi-auto rifle.

My M48 is in the 94000 range and my M48a is in the 1900's. Sounds like an interesting project. Let me know what you find out or if I can be of any help.

Dating a Yugo Mauser? I dunno, but if you drive up in a Yugo, offer a pretty bunch of flowers, and ask it out nicely, you may get a date!

Kidding - just kidding. Frankly, I am at a loss as to any references on these.

I knew someone was going to make a comment like that.

I wasn't sure if it was going to be as simple as looking in a book, or what. It's a nice shooting rifle, and so long as it keeps on shooting well that's pretty much all I care about. Figured it would be nice to know when it was made. Looks like I'm going to be doing some digging.
