Humidity in Gun Cabinet

    Does anyone have know the best relitive humidity for a high quality and sizeable gun cabinet.

    Figure an assortment of old and new firearms with wood stocks and a few synthetic.

    A friend asked and I do not know the answer.

    50% would be good, any less would tend to dry out the wood.
    Here in Fl we know our humidity it's 90% today :D

    50% seems high. Hardwood flooring should be 8% to 11%.????

    Loooking at some of the mfg of dehumidifiers they seem to recommend between 30 and 40% depending on who's product your looking at

    A woodworker who is a master at refinishing stocks, told me that 20-30% is about right.

    I believe that 37 - 40% relative humidity is the norm. Anything lower would dry out a stck, while higher would cause swelling. I have a golden rod in my safe and it stays at 38%. Yes, I use humidity indicater cards in the safe since I am in a business where humidity is a mjor factor in our products.
