I have read several posts regarding similar pistols. Like others, I inherited this pistol from my father (who died in 2001) and grandfather (who died in 1947). It has a 6 inch octagonal barrel, which according to what I read here is pre-WW II. In addition, the serial number is M12419, which according to the forum places it near the end of the pre-WW II production. I know the pistol must be a late 1930s or early 1940s. It is in excellent condition. Is there any additional information that someone can give regarding this pistol? I never met my grandfather since I was born in 1949, so all I have of him is this pistol and his straight razor. Thanks.
My father-in-law has given me a I J. A. & C. W. Target Sealed 8, serial number 2701 with 10 inch barrel. In the other posts it seems the serial numbers are all preceded by a letter. The gun is in good shape (blueing is gone but no major rust), with the original hand grips. Just curious what you can tell me about the age of this gun.

The serial number with letter prefix that will identify when made will be the hidden one on left grip frame under the grip or grips (It should have a one piece wooden grip unless replaced).
