IJ Target Sealed 8's were made from 1931 to 1957. Keep checking back....our resident expert on IJ's, Bill Goforth will be along shortly and can probably give you the year of manufacture.

as xracer said the iver johnson 'target sealed 8' was manufactured between 1932 and 1954. it was replaced in march of 1955 with the model 55. same basic mechanism only updated a little and with a more angular frame.

serial number N31337 was manufactured about 1953. i have to say about because i have no post wwII serial number records on this model and have to base my opinion on actual revolver studied and known production capabilities of iver johnson after WWII.

it would help in my continuing research of iver johnson handguns to know the type of hammer spring your revolver has, a single flat leaf spring or a coil spring?

if you could help me out with this i would very much appreciate it.

I hope somebody is still checking this forum. I have one of these pistols my grandfather gave to me about 20 years ago. He got it in trade from an old native american woman who used it to shoot snakes on a reservation. Mine has a serial # of N33814 and I've kept it in excellent condition. The handle was really worn so I sanded it down and re-stained it. Don't know if it's worth anything but I'd love to know more about the history of the gun.

How about serial number 2396? I received this gun from my father on my 14th birthday, which was a very long time ago. Also, are these guns worth repairing, aside from personal reasons? Were they considered decent firearms in their day?

    Welcome to the forum Gary.

M95385 is a second model made in 1950, so only 61 years old.
