I have some 155 gr. lead SWC bullets that I want to load with Win. 231 powder. Anyone have a Winchester Reloading Manual handy ?

    Thanks.

There doesn't seem to be any Winchester listings for the 155 grain SWC bullet using 231 powder in the .45 acp.

Closest thing I could find in my old manuals was 180 Grain SWC bullet using 5.3 grains of 231 powder, this gets 885 fps velocity with 15,300 CUP.

Why not try 4.5 grains of 231 powder and slowly work it up to a safe level?

I have eight listings for the 155 grain SWC bullet in other brands of powder, please let me know if you are interested in any of them.

Eric in Re; to the 40 Cal. brass! I sent you an e-mail and it was returned.

Eric, I'll let you have all 2750 pieces for $30.00 plus UPS shipping, But I need a committment now! I have a fellow who e-mailed me an hour ago wanting them. I e-mailed him back asking his zip code so I could calculate shipping. I haven't heard back from him, so it's still open. They will have to go to the first one committed. So, let me know soon, Please

Atta boy, BlackGun. You found a couple of 155 grain SWC buddit loads for the 231 powder.

These loads of BG show pretty high velocity, but don't be afraid of them Shooter 45. I have shot 88.5 grain JHP buddits in my .38 special and the velocity was 1400 fps, a piece of cake for that weight buddit.

Bet you'll love 'em once you've tried them. Please let us know how they do for you.

Thanks for all the info. I only want these to run in the 800 - 850 fps range. I'll do some calculating and work down to the load I need.
I have load info for several different powders, but not 231.

I loaded 5 rounds with the 155 gr. LSWC with 4.5 gr. Win. 231. OAL was 1.230". I shot them in an old Commander with a 20 lb. recoil spring. No problem cycling the slide and all rounds fed. I haven't shot for group size yet, but I will later.
Very little recoil on this round. It could become a good speed shooting bullet with a little work.

Shooter 45, you may find that these reduced loads of 4.5 grains will shoot a bit low at 25 yards on a bullseye target. But who knows for sure until you try them out.

Sounds promising. Good luck with them.

I may have to get some 231 powder myself.
