Back in the 50's I was about 12 I had a 22 single shot lever action rifle. When you lowered the lever the drop down had a trough that lined up with the chamber, you slid the shell in the through into the chamber and closed the lever, cocked it and shot. I don't know the manufacturer and it was old then. Does anyone have any information about this rifle? Well so far no one has identified the rifle, but thanks anyway.

Sounds like a Stevens "Favorite" or a Stevens "Crackshot" perhaps....

Sounds similar to a BSA Martini Action. I had a single shot .22 target rifle like that for bench rest shooting.

I don't think the Ithaca single shot lever .22 model 49 was made until '61 so if that's the case, that leaves that one out. Likely a Stevens?
Top left is the Ithaca 49R (repeater version); top right is a Stevens Crackshot; bottom is a Stevens Favorite.
