a long while back I bought a box of asstd stuff from a pawn shop dirt cheap. I mainly bought it to get the 3 baggies of 45-70 brass and spare 45-70 shellholder that was on top. It had other junk lil a milsurp ar15 mag, some generic belt sling, slip on rifle but pad, mist stuff just looked like junk. Going thru it I found this stripper, the bade appeared to have a raised annular ring around the prime, and looks lil ? Paper patched lead. Case bases are dated 1887

stripper has no proofs. All of the 5 case heads have one of these sets of markings, other than 1887

II. Over C

III over what could be an Asian character, or it is an F overstamping a B

V over what looks like R overstamping a G ir O

I betcha the II the III and the V are February, March and May of 1887. When they were made.

The clip looks like it's for the m1886 Austrian Mannlicher which would be chambered in the 11x58R.
Starting with the M1886/88 and the m1888, they dropped down to the 8mmx52R or a few other 8mm smokeless cartridges, but the clip was still very similar looking (no cutout in the center of the sides)

Anod an old auction of a couple of loaded clips. http://www.gunauction.com/buy/4801882

Thanks for the question. I think that Bindernut has headed you in the right direction. I can't see the headstamp too clearly in the picture, but from what I can see and your description, it appears a lot like the 11x58R rounds that I have. The round is also known as the .43 Werndl, the 11x58R Werndl. If you look up either of those, you'll find lots of photos to compare with yours. For example, http://iaaforum.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9747&view=previous

If that doesn't work, you may be able to narrow it down a little more by measuring with a caliper at several places and then comparing those measurements to the dimensions of known calibers. If you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/11_mm_caliber
and scroll down a bit, you'll see a table of 11mm rifle cartridge dimensions--neck, shoulder, rim, base, case length. Once you know those dimensions, you should be able to determine the "name" of the round and with that you should be able to find a list of manufacturers and headstamps.

Please keep us posted and thanks again.

From the picture of the cartridges it appears the base of the case is flat. If such is the case it is not the 11.15 X 60R, (43), Mauser. The 11.15 case will have a boss, a raised portion, where the primer fits. The 11.15 X 60R case will measure 2.34 in. in length and the 11 X 58R Werndel 2.26 in.. I didn't look up the rest of the dimensions but they are readily available for both cases and measuring and comparing them is the only way you'll know for certain.

Here's the picture from my post in reloading. The first cartridge on the left is the 10.5 X 47R which is based on a shortened, necked down Mauser "A" base , 11.15 X 60R case. You can see the raised boss on the base of the case.

You believe it's the 11 X 58 Werndel? If so, there are a few around. Not as many as the 43 Mauser but enough so that there is some data out there. Occasionally someone will pop in on the GGCA site and ask about it.
