I really do hate it. I have a friend who was in Afghanistan till last week, who is a Combat Engineer and has been serving our Country for 2 years. He is married and is only 21. He hit a IDE in one of the anti-blast big rigs, he was driving and he ran over a 300lb. roadside bomb. Completely demolished the truck and it broke his back and pelvis. He's in Texas now expecting a complete recovery and got the Purple Heart from Obama himself, (surprisingly) He is now being Medically retired which is a bummer for him as he wanted to make it a career.Well I was telling a person about him and I'm a little on edge now as I'll probably go to Afghan on a Stryker. Well the person said he got what he deserved for enlisting and being over there. I was at a lost of words. Really was, all I felt was I wanted to shoot the person.:AR15firing: Why hate on our poor guys who give so much for us? It hurts me to hear it and hurts them to give your back for your Country then be spat on for it.
Why hate? Why not say thank you and shake their hand or thank them for their service? I don't get it... :tapfoot:

Pray for him and his wife please...

Some of the finest people I've ever met were from my days in the service.

Military people don't get to select where or why the wars are fought. I'm not happy about the choices our politicians have made, but I admire the troops 100%.

Some of the bravest people I ever met have served our Country and sacrificed for it. One guy I know has been in 20 years and has missed the births of all his children and has only spent one Christmas with his family. And his oldest is 12. That's sacrifice at it's greatest. They deserve our utmost respect and thanks.

I don't know how old you are Marlin, but when our guy's came home from nam people spit in their faces, the American soldier was treated like total dirt. And that piece of scum Jane Fonda even turned some of our boys over to the enemy. It all makes me very sick and angry!

I'm not that old sir, but my father was there near the end. It was bad, almost as bad as now.

That is insane. People who speak this way are severly under-educated, or simply stupid. Regardless of where our chosen leaders decide to send our troops, they are there for a reason... One of the main reasons... Is protecting the safety of ALL Americans... Including the idiots unfortunately. My hat's off to you Marlin795, and to your friend who wasn't wanting to give up so easily! We pray for his recovery, and we pray for your safety soldier.:patriotic:

People are stupid to run their mouths. if the world goes bad soldiers will not stand in front of them but behind them. It just hurts as the person realized after he said it he remembered I enlisted and have a combat MOS. I will get some terrorists for you guys but not him.

The peace-at-any-price ones see only the actions of the soldier during the firefight. The soldier is KILLING! OMG! That must make the soldier bad and, therefore, they must do all they can to stop that evil type from contaminating our society.

Those of us who can think beyond the constraints of those narrow minded souls can see the sacrifice for country offered by these brave soldiers and honor them for their committment to keeping people who hate them safe.

When I was living in San Diego, during the waning years of Viet Nam, I was part of a group who would be at the dock side or at the airport when a contingent of our military was incoming. We were not there to spit and shout. We were there to escort heroes home. I was proud to be allowed into such a group. Most of us were "dirty old bikers," but the soldiers, sailors and marines didn't care.

Don't worry so much about what small minded people do. Worry about what you can do to make up for their petty, ignorant hatefulness. You won't get the attention in the press and TV for what you do, but you will make a difference for those who matter.

Marlin, there are people that will never know what it means to serve your country. I did, I endured the ridicule but I maintained. I do admit that there was a time when a guy got to close and a "twitch" managed to get him under the chin.

Your friend in Texas is in good hands. He will be OK.

Let me first say thank you for your service. Next, I want you to know that your friend and family and every member of our military are always in my prayers.
I wish I knew why people can be so small and narrow minded. I guess Pops explained it pretty good. Some just see the firefights and killing. But then, the news networks don't show much of the humanitarian efforts our military provides.
The men and a few of the women in my family have covered every branch of service thru the years. It upsets me too when I meet a hater. I try not to hate them but educate them. Sometimes it works.
God bless you and keep you safe.

I have to admit I did not think the "haters"were still around:thud: I thought that kind of s*** was gone. When I came home from nam I was given a hard time by alot of people even being told when trying to get a job "We don't hire your kind" refering to me being in the USMC and a nam vet:AR15firing:.THIS IS GETTING ME UPSET.So all I am going to say is I am praying for your friend and my prayers are going to include you, that if you go that you remain safe and healthy. And that ALL of our men and woman come home soon.

I agree for the most part. I have never served and have the utmost respect for all who did and do now including their families who also suffer hardship. If I see a serviceman at a restaurant I will tell the waitress to bring than check to me and just pay it on way out. They do not need to know who did it just to know that people care. Think about doing this next time you are out.

That said, I respect people who disagree with war in general and you will never change some people. HOWEVER, those same people need to realize that the soldier has not made the decisions that get us involved in conflicts. If they cannot say something respectful to the soldier they need to keep their mouth shut and respect the person. Since when did political belief trump respect and courtesy for our fellow man????
