    b.goforth,
    Thank you for responding to my question. I can answer some of the questions you listed:
    1. Exact markings
    A. Top of barrel = Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works
    = Fitchburg Mass. U.S.A.
    B. No markings on left side of barrel, smooth
    C. Bottom of butt strap
    1st line = APR 6 56, FEB 15
    2nd line = MAY 10 67 MAR 88
    3rd line = 2596 PATS PENDING
    2. There doesn't appear to be any serial number of any type other than under the trigger guard which is 33437. Surface is smooth and does not appear to have any filing marks of any type.
    3. Barrel length is 3 inches
    4. Gun does have a hammer with a flat striking surface with some etchings on tip.

    Gun is a .32 caliber, appears to be small frame, total length of gun is a little over 6 inches.

    Piece is in good - excellent condition, no rust etc...

    2. SERIAL NUMBER FOUND ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE GRIP STRAP UNDER THE GRIP PANEL (MAIN LOCATION SINCE 1896). without the serial number found here along with the letter code prefix i can only give your the date these five patent dates were used on the bottom of the butt, 1903 to 1905. in these years the letter code for the small frame 32 S&W caliber were;
    1903=F
    1904=K
    1905=N
    these are for the hammer model only the hammerless models used different letter codes
