Best I can tell the pistol is a .32 Cal 5 shot with the serial number: A14863. There appears to be a date on the grip of June 16 96.

This is the only pistol he would ever let me see and he was the most important men I have ever met in my life! Any information about this pistol would be a real blessing to me and my family. I would also like to shoot it from time to time with my father and my boys, so any tips/info regarding proper ammo would be greatly appreciated!

Jude.

You have a small frame smokeless powder third model made in 1910.

The 1896 date is just a patent date, and is followed by Aug. 25 '96 and Sept 6, '04 patents.

If OK mechanically, it can be fired with current .32 S&W ammo (the short one).
Do not use .32 ACP/.32 Auto ammo which will also fit but is unsafe for your gun.
