the target sealed 8 is actually a model 68. the numbers you give are the serial number. serial number M1856 or M1857 was manufactured in 1933, there were 1,900 of this model manufactured that year. production of this model as slow until after wwII (there were only 13,100 manufactured when production was stopped at the end of 1941 because of wwII). production resumed in 1946 and by the time it was discontinued in 1954 there were approximately 165,300 manufactured. the first model (1932-1941) with the octagon barrel are considered collectible the second mode (1946-1954) are not. the 10 inch barrel is very rare in either model. most will have a 6 inch barrel. only the second model will be found with the 4 inch barrel and late in production about 1952 a 2 1/2 inch barrel was added.
