    rowpu,

If you want information and a value, please read the sicky note at the top of the page of this forum. Fallow the instructions as best you can, and post it here and someone will help you. What you have provided is insufficient for what you are asking. Thanks, Kirk

It might also be a great idea, if you could substantiate, for us, what makes it a "rare piece of history".

A rare ( also said tongue in cheek ) J C Higgins Model 20 is in actuality a High Standard Model 200. You gave no condition of the firearm and condition is every thing. Being a Store Brand, its value would be 15 to 20 percent less than if it had High Standard roll marked on the barrel. A HS 200 is valued in the Blue Book from 175 down to 90 in poor. Of course minus 20 per-cent. And in a way it is part of history, to an era when guns were not evil and sold both through the mail and in the large retail stores.

There were a number of versions fo the Sears Model 20 with production beginning in the late 1940's and ending in the early 1960's.

The High Standard model 200 was not introduced until the mid to late 1960's a few years after High Standard ceased making the Model 20 for Sears.

The Model 20 was commissioned as a new design to be done by High Standard for the exclusive use of Sears which is true of several other guns made by High Standard for Sears. Sears paid for the design, development and tooling of their exclusive guns.

In 1960 High Standard was allowed to sell a simillar family of pump shotguns called Flite King's. This happened about three or four years before the Model 20 was replaced by the Sears Model 200 made by Winchester as a cheapened version of an existing Winchester design.

While over the years some parts found in the original versions of the model 20 continued to be used in the later model 20's and still later in the High Standard versions al versions do not share all parts becaue the design evolved. In the early 107's High Stadanrd made versions for about 20 other companies or large distibutors under a variety of model names.

As to value it would really depend on the version and condition with condition being the most important. Rarity is an over used term with no quantitative definition and in this case not at all relevant since High Standard made tens of thousands every year for about 14 years. The exception would be the relatively few engraved versions sold by Sears.
