So I am 20 yrs lod and I went into my local gunshop trying to see if they had any positions open or any kind of apprenticeship. Long story short I left with the guys saying in Arizona I can get arrested if I was caught open carrying if I was under 21. Gotta love it when people don't understand the laws. Just wanted to vent a little.

Think I would take them a copy of the statute for future reference since they are in the business.

Your responses are both right AND wrong:confused:
In the state of AZ.If you are 18 you are aloud to own a hand gun if it is a gift or purchased from a private party.
But you CAN NOT buy one from a FFL holder nor can a FFL holder SELL TO SOMEONE UNDER 21.
So as for you working in a dealer's store I could not find a law that says you can't (but that does not mean there is not a law)
So with out a law that says you can't it is up to the dealer and his shop rules.
But I am not sure if you have to be 21 to sell handguns in a shop in AZ.

Why risk a violation over the interpretation/technicality of a gun law and have a possiblity to lose your gun rights forever. You have less than a year to be sure. You will be in your 40's before you know it.Time goes fast!
    Just my opinion.

This law also pertains to long guns. Being 20 years old you may sling a rifle or a shotgun over your shoulder and walk down the street freely and you may even get away with it wearing a handgun, but until you are 21 youre asking for complication.

Goofy is right on, you may legally own a handgun if you are under 21 IF its a gift and the person that gave it to you s a family member over 21 or you live with your parents, but you still shouldnt wear it in public until you are of legal age to purchase a handgun legally.

Point im trying to make is, be patient, youll be 21 before you know it, then next time you turn around youll be 31 and wishing you were 21 again.

The statute specifically says 18 to OC. While you have to be 21 to buy from an FFL, if your state allows it (we do here in Missouri) you can however purchase from another individual.

There's ignorant people everywhere, that just means they aren't informed. If they've been instructed properly and still stand their ground, that makes them stupid, and there aint no fix for that.

I wouldn't trust anyone (no offense guys) or any web site when it comes to firearm laws. Go straight to the source (the State). Only then will you be assured of what the laws are.

    Welcome to TFF Dobbs.

why tempt fate? great, youre legal to carry. but why look for a fight or arguement with the law or an ignorant person? why? just to prove youre right?
part of maturity is to be able to weigh the situation.
are you carrying money to the bank at 20?
are you involved working in a dangerous neighborhood or work site with snakes or etc at 20..?
are you a repo man at 20?
do you live on the boarder and illegals cross your property?

so, if i may....why is it so important that a 20 year old carry a gun in open?
does it attract chicks? boost an ego? serious...tell me why? im curious.

just my opinion but open carry just tells everyone where the gun is and if someone wanted to harm you, they wont take chances, theyll just shoot you before you can draw. ponder it deeply. 20 is too young to get in a gun fight. and there isnt a reset button in life either.

I don't do it for the girls(going to b gettin married in sept). I do it for my protection, I live in tucson and often have to travel through South Tucson (not the best of areas) I also travel back to Phx to visit family ( often at night and I don't feel comfortable leaving the gun at my apartment because I don't have a safe) also I ride a motorcycle almost everyday. I don't carry on a daily basis (I will b carrying more once I get my CCW) but when I do carry I am aware of my surrounding and Im not carrying like an idiot (it is always holstered on a leather belt and not flopping around). I have been shooting since I was 10 and have always been tought gun safety.

Right or wrong, I can just about assure you the chance of getting a job there no longer exists. There's two ways to approach everything. If you broke bad with the OWNER of the shop, that was the wrong way. Bottom line is, it's his place.

First off Dobbs welcome to TFF, nice place to hang out.

I always tell young guys (I'm 61) if you want to get a job in a gun shop and can't for whatever reason do the next best thing, get some similar transferrable experience in a tech school or machine shop.

Build your own resume so when the time and opportunity is right you'll have a better shot to get in.

Good luck, and keep trying. ;)
