I have a couple hundred large pistol magnum primers that were part of an assortment of ammunition and accessories given to me by the wife of a deceased friend. Can these large pistol magnum primers be used in reloading .45 ACP or are they strictly for use in magnum caliber pistols? The loads they would be used for would be charged with less than maximum powder charge in a high quality .45 ACP.

Should be okay if you are using a mid range load. A max load I would say no.

I will be using W231 in a relatively mild target load and hoped that I could use those primers in that application. Thanks.

General rule of thumb is to go to the start load again & reduce the start load by 5% for egular powders & 3% for ball powders like your 231 when switching to mag primers.
