A friend of mine has the .22lr over the .410ga., and I've been trying to get it for a while now but with no luck!:( Mine has the barrel switch on the hammer and his is on the side...his is an older one.
I think I'd been limb rat hunting that day and thought a pic was needed as the bush was "jumping out" at me.:)
Combined barrels to different stock ends?

Huh? No. You are set to shoot the rifle and want to shoot the shotgun. How do you switch barrels?

Drilling has this little sliding button. Got it in one position and it fires the shotgun barrels, with the rear trigger shooting left and the front shooting right. Move it to the other position and it fires the rifle barrel, with the rear shooting it and the front doing nothing.

I have an M6. The firing pin can be placed in one of three positions on the hammer. Up fires the rifle, down fires the shotgun and in the middle is "Safety".

So, how do you switch barrels on the Savage?

Also, does it switch quickly and does it switch silently? Someone (I don't recall whether this board or another one) was talking about "instant barrel selection". I know that, with the M6, I have to first cock it, then pull or push the selector, and it goes into place with a loud CLACK which would scare away any game in two counties. It's neither quick nor quiet.

On the 24-J, mine has a selector switch on inner top of the hammer. Flip it back (up) and it fires the top .22mag and forward (down) it fires the bottom, 20ga. barrel.
It's pretty silent and smooth. More quiet than cocking the hammer. Just a small "click".
On the side selectors, same thing basically.

But as far as a noise that would scare the game away, not an issue.

I have the AR-15 and as far as the noise with the slector switch from safe to fire, no comparison with the "click" noise factor.
On the Savage, it's all most unnoticeable.

I've got a 22 LR over .410. First gun I ever owned. Got it in the '60's. I still love it.

I purchased one of these (24V) several years ago, I took it hunting the year I bought it (shot a doe), put it in the cabinnet where it has been sitting ever since.
My "24" is a24V (30/30 over 20 Ga), I think it has been shot less than 5times.

    I have a 24B, .22 over .410.
There is a button on the left side ahead of the hammer that moves up and down; up is .22, down is .410.

This little gem fits me better than any other weapon I own; it comes up perfectly, feels right, and is amazingly accurate.

This is the gun I was using when my wifes cousin was showing me how to shoot clays. I was busting them pretty regularly, then I swung it up for another and instead of "boom" it went 'crack'. I had bumped that little button up, accidentally, and fired the .22 instead of the .410.
    I broke the bird anyway.
He didn't say a word; he picked up his thrower, his birds, put them in his trunk and drove home with no further comment.

    Alpo,
finally dug through my pics as from my old PC that took a nose dive that I saved to flash drive and figured the pic would be a bit more
"descriptive", if you will, with the selector switch.
    This is my 24J-DL.
