I'm thinking of reloading some, 30-30, rounds for deer huntin'. Anyone out there have any good recipe's? Thanks.

I load a 150 grain bullet pushed by 30.0 grains of IMR 4064. It shoots fine in my rifle but you would probably need to "experiment" with the loads in your manual to find what ever works for your particular rifle.

Unless you already have the dies, bullets, primers and powder I would just go by myself a box or two of ammo. Unless you just want to reload for the fun of it, it really doesn't pay to load for a gun that you might only shoot once or twice a year hunting.

That being stated the load gdmoody gave you is a good one.

If you do reload 30-30 be sure to use flat nosed bullets (made especially for 30-30). They need to be that as the pointed bullet in the loading tube of a lever action might set off the primer of the one in front of it, making a very dangerous situation. The whole tube might go off from the recoil.

I have real good luck using 150 grn Rem Core-Lokt bullets pushed by H-335 powder and a CCI primer. I don't like to list charge weights, that's what manuals are for.

^^ that's a good deal.... I still can't load up a round with FTX bullets as good as teh factory rounds...

a box of 20 rounds around here goes for $21.99 plus tax.

Has anybody tried the hornady bullets with the leverevolution powder for 30-30? Read an article in hodgdons annual mag and it shows 150 grain bullet at max load 2500 fps. with much lower pressures than other powders.

There was a thread within the last month or so on here; I'll try to dig it up. If I remember correctly, listed velocities were not achieved, but it did perform well..... brb with the link hopefully

this was actually on the Superformance powder, but a good read nonetheless;)

I haven't yet had the fun of using the new powder or bullets but I have shot the factory loaded stuff and really changed my point of impact with the scope sighted in for the Rem core-lokts. It was shooting about 1 1/2 inches higher with Hornady factory rounds. That'll definately move the range out.
