I am looking to buy a taurus 1911. the magazines have given rave reviews, those lucky enough to got one love them, but no dealer I have talked to can get their hands on one. They should get production going, or quit advertising them...as it stands now, I am so pissed off at them, I dont think I would buy one now. I think springfield will get my money. they seem to want it, at least their production tells me so.

Your frustration is understandable, but Taurus is a victim of their own success. They can't keep up with demand. Hardly their fault, and no reason to take it off your wish list.

Call around, there are some PT1911's out there. In fact, somebody recently bought theirs on a website and paid only $500.00 for it. Be patient... it's defintely worth the wait.

Waiting for Taurus is typical. I waited more than 18 months for their Colt Lightning clone, the Thunderbolt rifle. The wait was worth it!

If you can do without all the Taurus custom "extras" you may be able to find a similarly priced 1911 clone but you will pay through the nose to get it to the state that the Taurus comes in from the factory. Isn't there an old adage...Anything worth having is worth waiting for. But be proactive and hunt the Taurus down. Don't wait for it to come to your dealer; Call around, search the Internet, and hunt for it.

I went to 3 local gun stores and asked to be put on a 'wish list' or order list. Two of them jumped right on it, the 3rd did not seem interested. In 3 weeks, I got call back from both; I just had to wait a short time, and I think it is worth it.....$529 for a very nice 1911.

Sportsmans Warehouse in my area has been able to get a few of these new 45's, but almost as fast as they get them they sell them!! My youngest son is on their waiting list for a Stainless one when they start shipping them, supposed to be soon! :)
They are around but sell like mad when they show up, so just keep trying!!!

Just buy one online and then ship it to your local FFL
Just go to a gun auction site and search for PT 1911

Sorral, at least while you're waiting you can save more money for ammo, grips, holster, belt, etc. Or have enough cash for a nice Kimber. :D

They are to be found on GunsAmerica for $500 or less. Mine looks at home in the corral. btw, it has a nicer trigger than the S&W 1911.

First off you don't have to add any 1911 parts to the Taurus because they did it at the factory for you.

As for the Rock Island being a real 1911 (?), it is made in the Phillipines and one I have does not exactly dimensionally match the Government specs and drawings in Kuhnhausen' 1911 book---the bible on 1911's. The gun works and 1911 parts can be made to fit (I changed out virtually every internal part and the barrel bushing on mine with "race 1911 parts", so I really know). Some fit fine other not so fine until modified. The RI 1911 is a very poor example of a real 1911 if you are talking about interchangeable 1911 parts. My RI works fine after the update to race parts but it is not an exact clone in any sense of the word. It is similar to the Taurus in that they made the gun to their own specs for ease of manufacture. Its recoil spring doesn't even match the government specs! My RI is an OK gun and works fine but if it were a 45ACP I wanted that looks like a 1911, it most certainly would be the Taurus. But unfortunately California won't let me buy one since it does not have magazine safety or a loaded chamber indicator (New requirements since 1-1-2007). Unless 1911 manufacturers change their current 1911 designs after their current safety certification runs out, that will be the end of any 1911 from a new gun dealer in California!

Yes, I'm aware of the private sales exception but I'll not hold my breath waiting for that guy with the Taurus he wants to sell. Maybe, just maybe the gun manufacturers of 1911 clones will come to the rescue by including magazine safeties and loaded chamber indicators but I really doubt they will. Just like the NRA, I think they have written California off for guns.

Thanks, but you really don't have to tell me the gun laws don't work. Only the liberal media doesn't know that. The problem in California is that the whole political environment has changed over the years. The Unions (state employees, teachers, and regular unions) have a firm grip on the state. Add to that the welfare people, the illegals (their situation effects the rest of us because they are related to legal immigrants and Hispanics born here who vote) who want "more for me", and we have ended up with a socialistic leaning political environment. Those of us that pay the taxes are out numbered. There literally are not enough of us to change the direction of the state and it gets harder with every illegal that crosses the border and with every compromise made to the unions in the state. California is LOST! Watch your back as "your" state may be next!

LDB, I know I've suggested it before and you have very good reasons for staying, but PLEASE consider moving! It really does sadden me to see someone who loves guns as much as you do have to suffer from the horrid political environment in that cesspool.
