Can somebody please tell me what dates the Model 80DL bolt action .22 was made?

I have looked it over and over and can't find the serial number either. Any ideas as to where that is?

It was given to me by my grandfather. It was his father's and my grandfather thinks he purchased it in the 1930's.

Hiya Shooter McGavin, according to the 23rd edition Blue Book of values, the Marlin 80DL was mfg. between 1940-1965, with a price range between $60. - $95.00. I hope this helps.

Welcome to TFF, Shooter McGavin. You'll find a good bunch of knowledgable folks here.

Serial numbers were not required by law on rimfire (.22 Calibre) rifles until 1968. While some manufacturers did serialize their equipment (Marlin, for instance,) many did not. I have a commemorative Remington 572 and had a single shot Winchester 67, neither of which with numbers. The Remington was manufactured in 1966 and the Winchester in the late forties.

So there's no sure way to tell when this particular gun was manufactured, right?

Not without some other distinctive feature, either on the metal or in the stock, or marking that could be pinned down by the manufacturer. I have always found Marlin most helpful in response to questions. Incidentally, they apparently didn't put numbers on their bolt action .22s but I did have an older lever action 39 that had a number manufactured in the 50s.

Shooter McGavin.....Marlin lever-action rifles were all serialized, but their bolt-action and semi-auto .22 rimfire rifles weren't serial numbered prior to 1969.
