I have an old shotgun. I was hoping to learn some more about it. Here are some pictures:

I don't know what the recurring "86" means. Any information helps.

Mississippi Valley Arms Co. was a Trade name used by Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St Louis, Mo. One of the suppliers to Shapleigh was H &D Folsom, who of course owned Crescent Firearms Co. and furnished Crescent shotguns. The trade name was owned by Shapleigh and they could use it on any ' "Trade name" firearms they sold, hence your shotgun could be a Crescent, Stevens, Iver Johnson, Davis, H&R or any of a dozen other different makers, even Belgium.. It is an inexpensive utility firearm that was meant to be used in every day life. Your shotgun is well used and probably would not bring more than a hundred on the market. Best WAG on age would be the 1920's thru the 1930's. Hope that helps , others may have differing opinions and perhaps more or more valid information. Shoot safe.:)
