i have a model 70 rifle, .243 cal, it has a 16 in. barrel, is this a standard barrel length, the stock compared to other model 70's does not appear altered as far as length and checkering, is there somwhere i can find out what this rifle was originally by the serial number.

I would think that a 22 inch barrel is standard. You can look on line for Winchester site and look for serial number info, lots of stuff can be found on line.
All my Winchester rifles came with 22 inch(standard caliber) and 24 inch (magnum).
