The Model 74 was introduced in 1940 and discontinued in 1955. In spite of the lack of production in the war years, some 406,574 were made. They were made in either .22LR or .22 Short, not interchangeable as some semi-auto rifles are.

There is some collector interest (as in anything made by Winchester); .22 Short versions bring around 25% premium. ANIB, one would bring around $500; in average condition, maybe $250. Pre-war guns (under # 128289) bring an additional 25% premium.
