Ok mosin owners, what scope do you use? I have been through 3. the last one was not a cheap one either. I can't find one that will take the recoil. I am sure an original PU will but I just don't like them. Any suggestions?
I use an el cheapo (Aim) scout scope mounted to the rear sight. Seems to be holding up quite well. I'm using the Archangel stock. Scope and rail was $69.00.
Most setups that aren't a drill and tap mount will require a long eye relief scope, could probably use a pistol scope too if it would handle the recoil.
I agree, 30-06 and 762-54 are real close in power range. I have an old Mossberg rifle with a ..gulp.. Tasco scope on it. Was there when I got it, hits targets, so I left it.
I use the same set up as GunClinger-I took to a good welding shop, they leveled/trued it and welded it to old sight base for 35$...4x12x40 Tasco, good enough for my use.
I used a jmeck scope mount: http://jmeckscopemounts.com/ It is the steel variety that has see thru for the iron sights. I used low rings and it holds my 6-24X50 FFP EBR-2C Vortex PST. In the standing position, I could use another 1" of eye relief to accommodate the arch angle stock. At a bench or laying down, it is good. I might contact them for another scope bracket that goes on top of the actual base mount to give me more options.
I tried an AIM scout aswell and it lasted about 60 rnds , not all in one day, then on shot 60 the front lens fell out and internal parts fell out. the next one was a wal mart purchase and the thing just shook apart with parts just falling off with each shot. the last was a bushnell banner and the rear lens cracked after about 15 shots.
maybe the rifle is just jinxed LOL
it is fairly accurate with open sights i just can't see that far and perfer a scope. I am using the UGT trirail set up.
perhaps the mount is transfering to much of the recoil to the optics.
I've probably put 300 rounds through mine and so far so good. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
