Hello all, I have some older Speer bullets #4477 in.45 cal. They are 200 gr jacketed hollow point. My Speer manual doesn't list these. I am going to use Unique powder and their manual shows a max chg.of 5.4 for a 200 gr. bullet. The #14 Speer manual shows a starting charge of 6.5 gr. with a max of 7.3 for a 200 gr bullet (a different 200 gr bullet) I'm confused ! I have already loaded 7 rounds with the 6.5 load..any advise ?

I would email speer and have them send me data on those bullets... then simply start low and work up...

Are we talking about .45 acp?
For years I used 6.0 gr of Unique with various 200 gr bullets in acp
If you are talking about .45 Colt I use 9.0 gr Unique with 200 gr bullet

    Hakasaw,

Speer manual # 13 has them listed.
This is directly from the manual for 45 auto (acp)

    .451” Dia. 45 TMJ Match # 4475, 45 JHP #4477 and 45 GD-HP #4478

Unique MAX 7.3 Mzl Vel 984
Unique MIN 6.5 Mzl Vel 860

This is the load for all three 200 Gr. .451 Dia.

What you have loaded already will be ok, I use 6.9 with the 200 gr. tmj and Unique.

Alliant lists a max charge of 7.3gr of Unique for their 200gr Jacketed GD HollowPoint.

Alliant also list a Max charge of 5.4gr of Unique for their 200gr LSWC. This is the data you are looking at and it is for a Lead bullet, not a Jacketed bullet.
    Hence the confusion.

Thanks for the replies, I did send email to Speer, but I think they are all on vacation :) These are jacketed 45 acp. The info from the #13 manual will get me going. I did my first set-up on my Dillon 550, these things are pretty cool !

I have several Speer manuals from the 70's and 80's and I will look for the data you requested.
IF it is any different from what is posted I will send it along- if it is the same I will spare the electrons from an unneeded demise.

Start with the lower of the suggested charges, then work up if necessary. If yer lookin' fer a "hotter" load, go to 45 Colt...

I finally got around to trying some of these rounds, they jammed in my Ruger
PK90, but feed well in my Glock model 21, I wonder whats up with this ? I re-checked the OAL and there were within specs. These do have a round ball nose.

these are the famous flying ash trays, my very favorite bullet for 3 of my 1911's. they discontinued these because some gun's have a bit of trouble cycling reliable but others say it's because a cop got put in jail for using these on duty in the state of new Hampshire. I have heard that there were more resoins than just ammo that put him in jail. but anyway For Unique 7.3-6.5 grns C.O.L 1.155 with CCI-300 primers. MY favorite is 9.3 grns of HS-6 C.O.L 1.155 and CCI-300 they go 980fps though my crno graph and make one ragged hole at 25yrds.
