I have one .22 rifle which I haven't used in years so .22 ammo isn't on the top of list BUT...... the local gun shop got their shipment in today and were swimming in .22 ammo so I bought a box of 1000 Winchester M-22 long rifle for $54
Would this be considered a decent price, all things considered in today's market? If so, I might go back and buy some more.
Seems like a good price, BUT I haven't read any good reviews for the M-22. Reviews that I have read say poor feeding, extremely dirty, and just won't feed in a 10/22.
I think I'll take your advice and just keep it but not buy more, it's not like I go .22 shooting every week! I am returning in a moment though because they have 10% off everything today and they got in a good supply of Varget and Titegroup so I think I'll pick up some more.
After starting this thread I did a bit of web surfing and did read a recall notice for the ammo but it was back early in the year and only involved two Lots, neither of which involved these boxes.
When I return, I may have a look at what other brands they have. Since they got in a good size pallet, their may be some left!
I missed an 8 lb jug of Varget at the last gun show by 10 seconds. The guy was asking $170 and if I hadn't stopped to let a little kid pass in front of me I would have got it.
Well, things move fast, even in a small town! When I got back to the store, all of the 500 and 1000 boxes of .22 were already gone and all were left were a few dozen CCI 100 packs and some Federal 50 packs. The Federal's were $2.24 a box so I went ahead and got the limit of two boxes in case any friends need them.
I got another jug of Varget but they had already sold out the remaining Titegroups but the trip wasn't a total bust. While standing there shooting the breeze with my friend behind the counter, a likeable fellow in a wheelchair which I had seen several times before and chatted with, rolled up and asked about the Titegroup they had gotten in but was told they had just sold out the last of it. He was disappointed and said he had called earlier so he got there as quick as he could but shrugged it off to misfortune and jokingly said it was all the wheelchair's fault because if it weren't for the hassle of getting in and out of his vehicle he might have made it in time.
On my way out of the store he was loading up in his van so I walked over and told him if he wanted to follow me home, I would sell him both of the jars I bought earlier today since I already have several. He was tickled pink since he really wanted to get some pistol reloading done this winter but said one jar would be enough. He followed me home and got the powder and he drove off a few minutes ago and I learned he only lives half a mile from me and I may have found a new reloading buddy! It's been a good day!
