Was wondering what you all thought of this.....I have always shot a right handed bolt action .22-.30-06 and now I'm going to start getting into deer hunting since I have moved much closer to hunting land. Anyways should I get a left handed bolt action rifle or stick with a right handed bolts since I can only find what I want in right handed models. My main concern is follow up shots and processing bolt quickly, I've never shot a left handed rifle before just right handed rifles lefty.
I can hold rifle in left and and operate the bolt with right just fine while shooting lefty just obviously isn't correct.
I really don't think it's a matter of which hand you shoot with, so much as it is bullet placement. Hit the mark the first shoot, and there's usually no need for a second shot. However, if it were me, I would look at the left handed rifles to see if they are as comfortable in your hands as compared to what you usually shoot. Comfort means better shots placement!
I totally agree with Carver. The 1st shot is usually what counts.Rarely on deer will you get a 2nd.However If I were Left handed and left eye dominate and had the money for a lefty gun I believe thats how I would go just because of cycling the bolt etc.Seems with practice that would me a more comfortable gun resulting in better shots like Carver said. If you watch Saving Private Ryan, the sniper in the movie works the bolt with his opposite hand. If you practice at it enough you could use your feet.
