I have heard many opinions on this matter.

Some say the .22 rimfire's optimum is 16".
Longer, bullet actually loses some stability from friction and loss of gas pressure as the action cycles on an automatic, or runs out of expanding gases.

    What do you think?

I too have read than after 16 inches the bullet is no longer accelerating therefore additional barrel length is not needed. However, for iron sights the extra length gives a longer sight radius and more accuracy aiming.
