I broke down yesterday and ordered myself a Mosin Nagant 91/30 and a case of ammo. :D I already have an M44 and I really like it except for the fact that it will kick the living crap out of you. I am looking forward to getting this "new" hex receiver 91/30.

I ordered it from AIM Surplus, and the ammo from Centerfire Systems.

Haven't fired an M44 but that "kick the living crap out of you" describes what I think about shooting the 91/30 before I got my slip-on butt pad.

Excellent choice. My M-44 is kickier than my 91/30, I don't have to use a recoil pad with the 91/30. They're both nice but the 91 is much more accurate.

I've got one of each as well... in my opinion, you would be hard pressed to get more value for your centerfire shooting dollar.. Mosins and the reasonably priced 7.62 x 54r are a tough combination to beat !!!

The 91/30 is more accurate because it doesn't have a bayonet hanging on the right side of it like the M44.

    A Nagant is a revolver!

There is a Nagant revolver. that actually shoots a cartridge called the 7.62 Nagant. The Mosin Nagant 91/30 or the Mosin Nagant M44 are rifles.

I just got an email notifying me that my 91/30 should be delivered tomorrow(3/27). I hope it quits raining by Monday so maybe I can take it on a small outing to the range!!

EDIT: Friday (3/27) came and went with no sign of a UPS truck!! Maybe Monday

As much as I enjoy plinking with both of my lam. 44s, just hope that a friend finds time to try to 'bed the stock', as I have no knowledge of any gun work.
Its 'group' is about 12" on those peel 'em black plastic targets from 50 yards on sandbags (no kidding:(), with cheap Bulgarian HB ammo.

My friend who is an actual sharpshooter used his small sand bags and could not find holes for two of the rounds.:(

Otherwise, might trade one sometime for a good 91/30, though I much prefer any carbine rifle over a long standard.

You will enjoy the M91/30, it is a little more balanced than the M44. I guess it is the added weight and length. It also packs a punch but I find the recoil is more straight back compared to the 44. I just use a small towel draped over my should to absorb the recoil. Have fun.

The recoil for 44s is a little milder than for LE 'J. Carbines', because the hard plastic butts on the 'JC's are smaller than what they should be.
They cover about 80% of the area.

It's a little late to post but. Buy a poly drop in stock, it will reduce the felt recoil
    by 30% easy.
