ROMT, you raise some good points. I think slavery was a moral dilemma from the beginning, and the country's founders were aware of it even as they declared independence and wrote the Constitution. Regarding the American Indians, there had been sporadic conflicts from the time European settlers arrived.

The society established by the founders was something new in the world, an experiment, and the founders believed that their ideals would eventually resolve such moral issues. In some ways, I think we have made progress, but in other ways we have clearly failed.

The situation seemed fairly stable as long as the founders were alive, but things started changing rapidly by the mid-1800s. We fought with Mexico and "bought" their northern possessions in the 1840s. The U.S. Army was engaged in operations against American Indians continuously from 1849-1900. Then there was the War Between the States. It ended the institution of slavery, but it also established that while territories could voluntarily join the United States, they could not voluntarily leave. What a "marriage".

The country's founders knew what it was like to be under the thumb of a super-power - they envisioned the United States as politically isolationist, not getting involved with international power games, just prospering peacefully and serving as an example to other countries.... pretty much the same model that Switzerland followed for more than a century.
That ideal was abandoned by the 1890s, when we fought the Spaniards and seized their colonies. We wanted to be a super-power too.

Well, anyway, Happy 4th of July! I hope that people will think about the country's origins, and perhaps even contemplate how resurrecting some of the Founders' ideals would benefit our society.

Begin forwarded message:to vote in 2012!!!

SCARRRRRY, be sure to read the obituary at the end very interesting.

DR. WILLIAMS predicts that Obama can not lose the 2012 election.

Dr. Williams prediction: Maybe you have read some newspaper articles written by Dr. Williams a conservative economist who happens to be Black. He has taught at several Universities and is currently teaching at George Mason University .

    No Matter What

    By Dr. Walter Williams

Can President Obama be defeated in 2012? No. He can't. I am going on record as saying that President Barak Obama will win a second term.

The media won't tell you this because a good election campaign means hundreds of millions (or in Obama's case billions) of dollars to them in advertising.

But the truth is, there simply are no conditions under which Barak Obama can be defeated in 2012.
The quality of the Republican candidate doesn't matter. Obama gets reelected. Nine percent unemployment? No problem. Obama will win. Gas prices moving toward five dollars a gallon? He still wins. The economy soars or goes into the gutter. Obama wins. War in the Middle East ? He wins a second term.

America's role as the leading Superpower disappears? Hurrah for Barak Obama! The U.S. government rushes toward bankruptcy, the dollar continues to sink on world markets and the price of daily goods and services soars due to inflation fueled by Obama's extraordinary deficit spending? Obama wins handily.

You are crazy Williams. Don't you understand how volatile politics can be when overall economic, government, and world conditions are declining? Sure I do.

And that's why I know Obama will win. The American people are notoriously ignorant of economics. And economics is the key to why Obama should be defeated.

Even when Obama's policies lead the nation to final ruin, the majority of the American people are going to believe the bait-and-switch tactics Obama and his supporters in the media will use to explain why it isn't his fault. After all, things were much worse than understood when he took office.

Obama's reelection is really a very, very simple math problem. Consider the following:

    1) Blacks will vote for Obama blindly. Period. Doesn't matter what he does. It's a race thing. He's one of us,

    2) College educated women will vote for Obama. Though they will be offended by this, they swoon at his oratory. It's really not more complex than that,
    3) Liberals will vote for Obama. He is their great hope,
    4) Democrats will vote for Obama. He is the leader of their party and his coat tails will carry them to victory nationwide,
    5) Hispanics will vote for Obama. He is the path to citizenship for those who are illegal and Hispanic leaders recognize the political clout they carry in the Democratic Party,
    6) Union members will vote overwhelmingly for Obama. He is their key to money and power in business, state and local politics,
    7) Big Business will support Obama. They already have. He has almost $1 Billion dollars in his reelection purse gained largely from his connections with Big Business and is gaining more everyday. Big Business loves Obama because he gives them access to taxpayer money so long as they support his social and political agenda,
    8) The media love him. They may attack the people who work for him, but they love him. After all, to not love him would be racist,
    9) Most other minorities and special interest groups will vote for him. Oddly, the overwhelming majority of Jews and Muslims will support him because they won't vote Republican. American Indians will support him. Obviously homosexuals tend to vote Democratic. And lastly,

    10) Approximately half of independents will vote for Obama. And he doesn't need anywhere near that number because he has all of the groups previously mentioned. The President will win an overwhelming victory in 2012.

Does everybody think the economy is on the verge of turning around? That's what will call the election.

I do believe the country will fracture and have some violent unpleasant times ahead if big "O" gets 4 more. Ain't in the cards.

On this evenings news, the reporter stopped people in the capitol city of Springfield, Illinois and asked them, what country we revolted against, what year independence was declared, what the national anthem was and who was the sixteenth president of the US. Most of them answered wrong! We are so screwed!

I been thinking more about this dr william dude.

    1. 3/4 of the country is not happy with this wide swing to the left. I am not making that up.

    2. I think the handwritting is on the wall for bummer. I also agree he is outta there.

    3. Lets just supose for the heck of it that even with all of the criminal activity, and the socialist agenda that he does manage to get re elected. Ok now what? I will tell you if he is re elected this go around then that means NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE but a dem will ever be pres again. Think about that for a while.

Let me ask you this... Are there any Democrats anymore?

It's an honest question. Do you think rural America Democrats identify with ANYTHING that San Francisco ULTRA LIBERALS who fund and control the entire party now?

I don't think they do. I think... if we IDENTIFY how those decisions impact them or those like them, DIRECTLY.... cause and effect! like the delta smelt in NorCal turning the biggest bread basket on the planet into a dustbowl. Right here in CA.

Obama didn't win because of BLACK voters. Blacks are 12% of the population, and news flash to those who may have missed it, they dont ALL agree with socialist agendas.

Obama will not lose if they are bold enough to legalize the 20 million illegal aliens, but they also know, that pretty much draws a line in the sand that many people will not back down from... and their side has pot smoking hippies and our side has hunters, farmers, and ...
