Hello All,
Well, the old 30AW is about to get a facelift. I am duracoating the metalwork, but I believe I will just paint the stocks. Any suggestions on a good, durable paint for them? This is my brushgun, so function is more important than looks.
Thanks a bunch!

It's not helping you any but several years ago I had a friend who worked at a paint and body shop paint a stock for me. The paint started cracking and chunks started falling off after about 15 years or so.
Krylon Paints make camo paint in 3 distinct colors. What I did was to try out this paint on metal and wood parts. Iv'e been doing this for years on compound bows but not with this quality of paint.
1) Remove stock and hardware from weapon.
2) Clean all parts to be painted . 90/10 alcohol will work just use it sparingly.
3) USE PAINTERS TAPE (blue kind)
4)Mask off all areas that you do not want to paint . (trigger assembly and guard if you do not want to remove from stock. Remove butt plate or recoil pad as well.
4) Spray your entire stock one color only. Let dry and spray it again.I like to work from dark to light. (darkest color goes on first) Make certain you have a good base coat!
5)Now find leaves or long bladed grass that will blend in with your hunting areas.
6) Leave enough of the leaf stem or grass to hold on to. I prefer leafs, but fess will work just as well.Just tie it into a small but rather long bundle.
7) Using your leaf or bundle of grass as a mask lay on a light layer of your next shade.
Remember to keep the leaf/bundle up against but not bearing down on your stock. This will leave a feathered soft edge rather than a hard outline.
8) Repeat with this same pattern in several strategic places.
9)Continue with your next color and SPRAY LIGHTLY varying or leaf or grass pattern . Let your imagination take over by changing the angle of your leaf or grass.
10) It's ok to over spray from one color over another.
11) Any mistakes can be easily gone over again
12) Once your happy with your pattern let it thoroughly dry .
13) Now you must buy a can of Dull CLEARCOAT,also sold by Krylon.
!4) If you omit this step , your paint will scratch off ore easily than if you apply a clearcoat flat finish at least 2 coats.
15) you will amaze yourself at what you can do!
!6 ) As an alternative you can use after your first coat of dark to the entire stock, You can use the widest roll of painter tape I think it is 3". Using a marking pen trace outa pattern that you find pleasing. You can tape two or more pieces of tape together to match your outline. Make certain that the outward edge of the seems are flattened down Roll them with a quarter will help.
17) Continue on until your entire stock is covered with your taped mask.
18) Lightly Spray your second color over the entire gun.
19) READ THIS FIRST Have your stock laying done on a table Covered with newspaper built up of the table with anything that you have Old film canisters ,or pill bottles will work.
It is important to use the same height materials even old blocks of 2"X4" wood. However you may also hang your stock vertically using the sling studs and say an old coat hanger bent into a long loop.
20) take your time and work diligently and patiently remove some of your masking tape patters and place them in different positions or just leave them off . and spray your 3rd and final color. Please do not rush and let paint cure before you flip your rifle and do the other side.
21) Follow the above instructions and you will have a one of a kind camo stock or even the entire rile. Lock ,stock,& barrel.
Best of Luck!!!!
