Re: Any help on a Kimber 1911?

I can tell you that I have a colt defender 3" barrel and it has a lightweight alloy frame and is very accurate. Great carry gun. I have several commanders that are great carry guns as well. One of my favorites is my S&W E-series commander with a scandium frame and a round butt. You see my wiley clapp commander pictures further up the page. These are lightweight guns too and make excellent carry guns. Commanders have 4.25 barrels.

I am looking for a 1911 with a steel or stainless frame. I guess I just want to make sure the frame is tuff enough to take a lot of rounds. What is the round count expected from a alumimun frame?

You wont have any problem with an aluminum frame. But, if you have doubts, dont buy one. I will tell you that the weight makes for a great carry gun and I highly doubt you will ever outshoot the frame.....

I sold my first SA 1911 (loaded) like an idiot because my unit armorer scared me into the 'alloy frame might crack' idea.

Had over 100k rounds through the gun then sold it to a buddy who still shoots and carries it to this day!

If it's going to primarily be a carry gun, there's nothing wrong with the alloy/lightweight frames. If you're Todd Jarret and shoot a million rounds a year then I would say steel only.

I shoot mine quite often and I have never had any issues. I doubt the average shooter would ever have any issues with an alloy frame. I wouldnt be afraid to run high volumes thru mine.

Have you guys seen this new s&w pro shop 1911? It has some nice features and is priced right in comparison to others....List price is 1539.00 and dealer cost is 1170.00. I like it.

Here are a couple that I traded for yesterday. The Taurus is brand new and the Auto Ordnance is used. I'm thinking seriously about getting Josh to refinish it like he did my derringer and makarov.

Actually G, that rand pic't above is original finish. Characteristic of WW2 era parkerizing. the highly desirable 'OD' park. I have an 03A3 thats OD park'd, its actually quite difficult to duplicate.
