I bought two powders one is wsf the other is titegroup. the titegroup gives data for 90gr. 125gr. and 147gr for the 9mm. I have a hornady 124 gr xtphp i wanna use. does that mean the titegroup powder is not meant to be used rith the 124 or can i make a recipe starting at the max 90 and work my way up to find a suitable recipe? I have data for the wsf but i just wanted to check out the titegroup powder.

I don't have my manuals handy right now, the Hornady 8th and 9th have data for TG. If you don't have exact data, then start at the min for the 125gn bullet after ensuring that you've taken all measures compare manuals and bullet design.
90gn is a drastic difference in bullet wt. and going the opposite way as far as powder charges are concerned. A min. load for a 90gn bullet is considerably over the max load for a 124/125gn bullet.

Use the same data for 124 and 125 gr. jacketed. FWIW, I really like WSF, especially for 147 lead and jacketed.

8th Hornady doesn't list for titegroup with a 124g bullet.

Thanks time2hoot, I did print all the data from the Hodgdon site. But wht I wanted was data or the titegroup powder with the 124 hornady tphp bullet. There are only 2for that bullet wgt. Both for wsf, and for cast lead or fmj. I'm too new to reloading to try experimenting with homemade recipes ya know so I wanted safe starts and max's. looks like you put some work into the reply thanks it is appreciated tho.

use the data for the 125 gr. it has tight group.
the bullets you got will not all weigh out at 124 gr.
The one grain of weight in the bullet will be ok.

just so you know, the Hodgon manual tends to be a little 'hot' on the powder. Some of the max loads in other manuals are minimum loads in the hodgon, tends to be this way for many of the pistol cartridges I load.

And if i remember right, tight group is a very fast burning powder.

So if its a hot fast burning powder, whats the result ? whats the difference between a fast burning powder and a slow one?

the faster the burn, the less powder needed. to much and it goes from bang to BOOM.
    not good.
and also not enough powder when it is a slow burn, and you get the same resalt.
allways check the preshure. that will help.
and barrle length, figures in there also.

I started with WIN.231, then tried the Titegroup and noticed it seem to leave my guns dirtier ( 9mm,40s&w,and 45acp). I'm new to the reloading and wondering if you may have noticed this in any of your guns that your shooting your reloaded ammo from.?

Win231 is the same as HP-38 also remember. (like Win296/H110)

Is it appearing dirtier or are you seeing any unburned powder? The titegroup has always burned fairly clean in both .40 and .45 for me, not quite as good as Clays (maybe? they're close) but pretty close.

I've not used W231/HP-38 before myself.

powder burn rate chart for comparison; shotgun/pistol powder burns fastest

Titegroup burns faster (#14 on chart) than the WIN 231 (29 on chart) which I was aware of from my reload book. I was just courious of the titegroup since you said that was what you preferred. I guess its unburt powder I'm getting in my barrels. Had to actually get Butchs Bore Clean to get my guns clean, and still had to use Butchs a couple of times to get the grooves in the barrels clean. I especially noticed it in my Kimber Conceal carry II.
I am using a min. load . If that may make any difference? Like I said; I'm somewhat new to the reloading, Just trying to pick up any tips I can
