I am sorry but I just don't see how this can happen with Obama and the Democrats in control of the country. They will save us all by printing more money and throwing it at the problem. We will all be safe.

Pony,:D I hope you can relax about this one for a while at leaste...The Sun currently is without any Sun spots, i.e. storms on it's surface. I have read recently that this is a time of reduced solar out put, giving us the coolest mean average temps in quite some time. And, it is proving Al Gore and the others very wrong about global warming.;) But it is also predicted to change in the future, or at least it should, or we will have global cooling, not a good thing either. If it does not "wake up" and we have a prolonged period of no sun spot activity, we could end up with a mini ice age like was recorded in Europe about 500 years ago. This lasted for a somewhat long time, don't remember how long though. Best regards Kirk

Yep, we've been warming for the last 12,000 years or so! :D:D

Little Ice age, from roughly 1650 to 1850, in the northern hemi.

Kirk, I've heard the same thing about the lack of sun spot activity 'flaring up' :D. Here's a related story with a bit more of an explanation to why they're worried.

    http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2008/12/17/earth-magnetic-field.html

Now, if the sun spot activity doesn't do as they predict by reaching levels near the last cycle's, then I hope that means we're out of the woods just as you suggest.

Yes Pony, those scientists have been trying to relate sun activity to our climate changes for quite a while, now. I wonder if this 'unfavorable' alignment has anything to do with the anticipated magnetic pole shift?

Gee whiz! Something else to 'worry' about! :D Bird Flu; Obama; My Spelling; The Economy; Asteriods; Mad Cow; SAD; and now, Solar Winter!

I'm heading home after work, building a fire, pouring a drink, grilling a burger, petting two ugly dogs, and not thinking of anything of import until tomorrow when I shall head to the range, to make a joyful noise! ;)

This might turn some of the most die-hard Russian haters out there ;).

I can't find the article now but several years ago a group of Russian scientists actually offered a bet of some $10,000 that Global Warming was a myth. :D

Don't you know that man causes all our own climate change ? I mean, everybody knows that SUV's caused the meltdown after the ice age.
