I will be down in Seymour, Indiana next week for a few days next week and was thinking if I have some time that I might try to make it to a range with some relatives if we can find one fairly close. I know there are a few folks from Indiana here, does anybody know of a free public range, or at least one that we could pay to shoot for a day without getting a yearly membership?

Are you flying to Indiana, or driving? If you are driving, you have to pass through the semi-socialist state of Illinois. Remember we don't have CCW here in Illinois, to be on the safe side if you are traveling with guns in the car, keep them unloaded and in the trunk.

There is a pretty good range about 30 miles north of Seymour.

I haven't been there since sometime in 2008 (I was a member that year, but I've since moved much further away), and they've changed management in that time, but I've heard it's been for the better. That's also about the best place in the area to buy reloading components. For instance, here's the powder they keep in stock and their pricing on it.

I hope you have a great time here in the Hoosier state!

Wow, Josh, I have heard of Atterbury but never have been there, I will have to check it out.

The other option is checking state parks and rec areas in the area, there are a few pretty close by but I don't know if they have shooting ranges, but you can get on the website and look up parks. They will list the ones with ranges.

Many of them have supervised covered, bermed shooting ranges with 10/25/50 and 100 yds distances, and it's either the cost of a daily pass (I think $5 per car this year for residents and $6 or $7 for non) or if the gate isn't manned like it is now, $2 per person at the range.(gates usually not manned until May.) They even supply the target backers, and staples, and you can borrow rifle rests made from wood from them too. You just need to supply the targets.

Check out Harden Lake, Lake Monroe which are within 30 miles or so. I think they have ranges.

Yeah traveling through Illinois is like traveling through a Gulag state especially near Chicago, and while the southern part has many conservative freedom loving folks you can't help but feeling sorry for, but don't worry, once you get to Indiana you are back in a "Free State" ;):p:p
