Whats the best 12 gauge pump shotgun you can think of? I want to purchase one with a blued barrel and wooden stock. I been thinking about purchasing the h&r pardner pump 12 gauge shotgun. Opinions on that brand/model? It will be my main carry shotgun to keep in my vehicle
What are you going to use it for? Shotguns are designed for specific needs. Dove, ducks, geese, turkey, deer, people, etc. There is no one size fits all.
Buy a older used but carred for mossy 500 or remmy 870. Better and smoother than whats built today. Best pump ever Model 12 winchester but you leave that in your truck you deserve to have the truck stolen. hehe
Whats the best 12 gauge pump shotgun, h&r pardner pump 12 gauge shotgun, do not belong in the same sentence! Hardluk1 has given you some good advice, but remember, shotguns are like cars, we all have favorites, and they are all the same!
I want the shotgun for the walk around farm gun for wild animals but also, vehicle shotgun, and also home defense. I want to get a 12 gauge. I have 2 single shot shotguns that are break open, I wanted to trade one of my rifles for my brother n laws 12 gauge benelli but he told me buy my own
I want to carry a shotgun around the place instead of a rifle. I was even thinking of a 10 gauge but ammo is sometimes hard to find around the atascosa county area. I will stay with the 12 gauge. I would like to shoot every type of shotshell like buck shot and slugs. I want the best shotgun out there and i dont care how much it costs. Thanks for the replies.

Alright, you want a general purpose that is easy to get out of the truck, which means a relatively short barrel. I'd go for one of the Mossberg 500 series in a new gun then. Reasonably priced, good all around gun that will shoot whatever you stuff in it. You can get a 590 series for around $400. http://www.mossberg.com/products/shotguns/pump-action/mossberg-590-special-purpose
That said, I'd also second the Win Model 12 (military version)if you've got a couple grand to spend on a good one. They went out of production in 1963. The thing with a model 12 is they didn't have a trigger disconnect, so if you want to throw a lot of lead downrange, this is the gun to do it. Just hold the trigger back and work the slide. If you're good you can get off 2-3 rounds per second.
Howdy, YOU no its pretty hard to beat the remmington 870 wing master for a all purpose gun. You can get a slug barell custom stock etc etc. The great thing about the 870 is the older and used models work just as well. I own a mossberg 780 and 950 there ok, you get what you pay for. Make that three for the model 12 winchester I belive the best shot gun ever made. You might look at the Ithaci shot gun the one my brother has is one great gun and it ejects the empty shells at your feet. Good luck and have fun
Ithaca Model 37. This was the shotgun used by the LAPD and NYPD back in the day. The 870 Wingmaster is a great gun also. These are the two steel-and-walnut shotguns I consider best.
PS: The military version of the Model 12 can also be had with a bayonet lug, and bayonet. Just in case. Won't find that option on any other shotgun afaik.

870 supermag with a 26" barrel. then get a rifled barrel to swap in when you want to do slug. the swap takes about 30 seconds.
mine is camo so rust is not a big worry. I have used mine in a freezing drizzle duck hunt and not addressed it for 2 days. not a single sign of rust. but pre-oiling is needed
wood furniture and blue bbl... hard to beat a mossburg 500/a 12g they are on the economy side.. always fire.. have a nicely placed safety on the top strap. I prefer mine to my remington 870 actually.. action is much smother ( almost loose.. )
I carried one in 'Nam occasionally. Excellent close up weapon. You should also know that the early Model 12's were chambered for 2 5/8" brass shells instead of the more modern 2 3/4" shells. Many were converted to 2 3/4" but if you buy one, have it checked out by a gunsmith before you stuff anything in it.
Buy a Maverick 88 by Mossberg, it's basically the same as the Mossberg 500. I have one and love it, best thing is you can get them at Academy for $165.00.
Looked at one today with the 20" tube & I liked the way it felt, identical to the 500 that got stolen from me couple years ago, only difference I could see was the safety. Soon, friends,soon...My gf's birthday is next month & I think I might get her a 20 guage 88 , she liked the way that one felt... Matter of fact I might buy her 20 & the 12 for me at the same time, since my birthday's in April !
Remiington 870 , 6,000,000 served and still going strong . I believe it's the longest lived shotgun model ever . If that's not success , I don't know what is !
If you are looking for a straight up defense shotgun there are models that hold up to 14 rounds. The Mossberg 930 in a defense model is hard to beat but is not a pump. The 590 is good, the 870 tactical and defender are both good but long magazine tubes make it hard to impossible to replace with a slug barrel. Also; most defensive shotguns don't come with screw chokes. This limits it's utility around the farm to whatever you can shoot with a cylinder bore.
so mossberg makes good shotguns? im not looking for a tactical type shotgun and now that i think about it im not going to shoot slugs but mainly buckshot and birdshot. Ive been looking at the mossberg shotguns at academy and Im definitely going to buy one after christmas most like still this year. Is the 870 remington express the same as the 870 or are they different models because i thought the the 870 was way over $500
okay im going to go with either the 870 remington or mossberg 500 for sure after christmas. thanks everyone, i dont know much about pump shotguns. i always shot my family members pump shotguns.
