I recently inherited my father’s colt 1911. It was his sidearm in WW II in Germany and France. I called Colt and gave them the SN. And the only information they could give was that it was produced in 1918. This seems unusual to me but I guess it could have been made much earlier than when my Dad was introduced to it. Money couldn’t buy this gun because I know he carried it all through Europe but I was just curious about its value. I have fired it about 10 times when my dad was alive and I will not shoot it any more. The gun is in VERY GOOD condition, very little wear and no rust or bluing damage. Bluing is original and in my opinion 95 + % good. It has the original wooden army grips and they are very good as well. Any ideas ?

The Army never declared the M1911 obsolete when the M1911A1 came into service. So many of the older guns served up to the adoption of the M9. I had an M1911 made in (IIRC) 1914 in the arms room in 1957. It was the most accurate of the 9 pistols we had and had never been rebuilt or refinished.

How about some pictures? Are all parts original to the gun as far as you know?

I will try to post some pics soon. I know the gun has been unaltered since 1944. Everything seems as it should for this period. Considering what the gun(and my Dad) went through in Normandy and the rest of Europe, loosing two tanks, it is in remarkable condition.
