Ok My local range only allows 1 round at a time at the "large-bore" range.
My AR just isn't any fun with one round at a time.

Currently have a 30-06 but want something else... Idealy it would be...

Cheap to feed - that's why I was thinking .223 - No Pistol calibers

Reasonable recoil - my girlfriend wont shoot the 30-06.

Reasonably priced bolt action rifle - under $500.

    Accurate.

Also would like it to have Iron sights - still like Irons the best. But may scope it in the future.

I shoot off hand never with a rest

    Any suggestions?

Switching ranges is not an option right now.

If it is for the range, I would stick with .223. It will be MUCH cheaper to shoot than anything else. I am partial to Rugers for their quality, but I think you can safely get a Rem 700, Browning A-bolt, Savage 110, etc. and be all set.

Just looked up the price on a Savage 110 - Too much $

    Tikka - no iron sights?

I need the price to be under $500

So at this point it's definitly a .223 Bolt action with Iron sights - UNDER $500

That Savage looks like a winner. Thanks Airdale! Any one have/try the Savage 11 Hunter? Are they happy with it?

    Still open for more suggestions.

For that price I don't think you can beat a savage with a big ugly stick.

The Savage offers MOA out of the box as well! I don't think you will be dissatisfied.

Looks like A Savage 11F in .223 is for me. Hopefully I can locate one to see how it looks and feels

Thanks for the replies. In my internet search this rifle never even came up.

Thats what's great about this forum!

You could buy a rifle drilled and tapped with no sights and mount a red dot.
    Just another way to go.

True - think I want the iron sights. If I can get them...

On the Savage website doesn't look like the 11 series have iron sights.

Could just be the "stock" photo at Bud's is wrong.

I would call Buds and find out. Could be a model no longer made.
The model on the Savage site is 11/111FNS (no sight?)

The model# on Buds is 11/11F

    Worth a call me thinks.

I would be ordering thru a LGS. Prices usually are as good as Bud's.

I'll check with my LGS and see what they say.

    Thanks again.
