It's been about 25 years since I loaded 38 or 357. I have been into rifles the last few years.

Can anyone give me suggested mild loads for 38 and 357 along with bullet preferences and sources?

    Thanks!
    Ron

Hi Ron, and welcome to the forum.

I shoot target with a Marlin 1895 rifle. (centerfire revolvers are illegal over here thanks to a liberal government with gun-grabbing tendencies and knee-jerk laws.)

My pet load is 4.0-4.2 gr. Titegroup, 158 grain round nose flat point bullet, with CCI or Federal primers.

I enjoy shooting 148 gr WC (Mastercast) with 2.8 grs Bullseye in my .38 spl. Good mild load and very accurate.

I shoot a S&W 357 and my load is 5.0 gr. of 700X with a 158 gr HP. And for cast bullets 3.5 gr of 700 X the 146 gr bullet. Using a 357 case. Will work ina 38 case all so.

Agreed on the 148 wadcutter load and for my 158 gr LSWC I like 3.5 gr Bullseye.

For the magnum with same 158 gr LSWC bullet I like 6.5 gr Bullseye. Not a barn burner but nice and accurate. I'll leave the hot loads for the factory stuff.

For .38 spl. I like Cast 158gn RNFP over 4.0gn of either W231 or Unique. Both with give you about 800fps out of a 4" barrel and they are very accurate loads.

For the .357 I like the same bullet over 14.0gn of 2400.It's not a high end .357 load but it will produce about 1200fps and it's accurate.

    Also, a BIG WELCOME!!!

+1 on the 2400, 14gr is a good accurate load for the 357

Invest in a new manual, it might not be as cheap as info from these lads (all great guys,I might add) but there is loads (pun intended) more stuff for you to relearn on pistol loads....
