I got to say, anyone that asks if you can use a .452 diameter bullet to load a cartridge that requires a .429 diameter bullet, should not be reloading.
Hard to take the question seriously when you notice the handle of the questioner. Aren't XTP's jacketed ? I think attempting to swage them would peel the jacket off. Maybe that would make whatever is left fit.
And they have not read a reloading manual. And they have not compared the barrel from a 44 mag to a 45 Colt. And they did not look at the diameter of the 45 Colt in XTP (.452).
I encourage the OP to read some reloading manuals and especially the Hornady 9th Edition. It has the load data for the XTP's he is speaking of.
By the way, no, you cannot shoot those through the barrel of a 44 mag and if you seat those .452's into the 44 mag cases you'll never get them to chamber and you will kill the life of your brass.
Got the private message. I dont think I saw whatever was posted. I didnt take any offense to anything that was said. I saw in my book that a .429 was suppose to be used but wasn't sure because I read somewhere that you could use the .452. Just needed to be sure. I bought some .452 a while back and was hoping I can finally use them.
Its a desert eagle. I have the .44 and .50 barrels.
I dont mind the kick, I usually conceal carry 9, 38, and .40. Everything is fun, I love shooting bigger and heavier calibers at the range.
Sorry bout my short reply earlier this weekend. Had a bum hand and was arguing with the thumbboard on an Android that day. Back at a normal keyboard now so I can fumble-finger a little better.
Anyhoo, Highboy and the others have things straightened out for ya. Those 300gr XTPs are indeed geared towards heavy loads for the .45Colt. They'd be awful long to try and seat in the .45ACP. Wouldnt' have much space left for powder and it would be a pretty pokey load if you could even find data for the combo. I do know a few guys that load the 250gr JHPs for the .45ACP (loaded to +P or super levels) for hunting but even that is a squeeze job to put together.
Best bet would be to use em for trading material for some 230s that you can use in the .45ACP or something that you can run through your .44 or .50 Deagle barrels.
To jmak,
You can swage .45 cal jacketed bullets down to .429. It's a big step but can be done if you've got a swaging die.
When you swage the bullet, you're not shaving any material off...the swage die is basically a funnel so it will compress the bullet down to the new diameter without removing any material. We got a big bulk lot of .44s at a gunshow that were undersized @ .426"...they swaged down to .410 to use in the .41Mag just fine. Granted that's not as big of a step as .452 to .429, but the same principle applies.
Using lead 45L/Colt heads sized to 451, weight 254. with Bullseye for past 15 mths at rate of 150 per week .Very accurate at 25yrds range in my Jericho FS
